Description
Nos. 13 and 15 Market Square are a pair of houses dating from the early to mid-19th century. They are constructed of painted brick and feature a hipped asbestos slate roof. The buildings stand three storeys high and have three windows, which are fitted with glazing bar sashes and flat arches. The ground floor on the left side is chamfered and includes a pair of mid-19th century shop windows that have panelled pilasters and reveals, topped with a flat hood supported by scroll brackets. To the right, there is a doorway for No. 15, which follows a similar design. The right side also has a two-window return with a basement that is set into a steep slope. Access to the entrance is provided by six steps leading up to a six-panelled door, which has panelled reveals, panelled pilasters, and a marginally glazed overlight. A steep alleyway at the return features a variety of cobbling techniques, contributing to a picturesque grouping with The House on Crutches. The buildings are included for their group value.
