Description

This is an early 18th-century town house, likely of double-depth plan, and later adapted for use as a shop. The front is clad in painted slate hanging on a timber frame, with a decorative cornice creating a false jetty effect between the upper floors. The roof is covered with bitumen-grouted ragslates, also having a moulded cornice under projecting eaves. The building is three storeys high and originally had a two-window front. The first floor has original four-pane hornless sash windows within wooden architraves. Later, copy sash windows with horns were added above. The ground floor now features an early 20th-century shop front with slender mullions, a transomed design, and a doorway with a deeply splayed entrance. A moulded entablature is partially obscured by a mid-20th century shop sign, but is visible above the original house doorway which has an overlight and a two-panel door with arched panels. The interior has not been inspected but is likely of historical interest.
