Description

Lemon Villas is a block of three villas dating from the early 19th century. The villas are stuccoed, with asbestos slate roofs and projecting eaves. They have stuccoed stacks and are arranged in a U-shape with a double-depth plan. The central villa, No.1, faces south and is flanked by two similar villas facing east and west.

The east front of the principal villa (No.1) is symmetrical, with three windows. It features a central doorway within a 19th-century glazed porch with pilaster corners and round-arched lights. There are also scribed corner pilasters with pairs of consoles and narrower pilasters with single consoles flanking the central bay. The windows are original 12-pane hornless sashes, with moulded eaves. The south front has a 2:3:2 fenestration pattern, with the central bays set back. An iron verandah fronts the south front, with panelled doors located near the angles.

The interior, as inspected in the ground floors of Nos. 1 and 2, retains original features including window shutters, panelled doors, moulded ceiling cornices over consoles, and an open-well staircase with a mahogany handrail and scrolled newel.
