Description

St Nicholas House is a detached villa, now used as offices, built in 1820. It features stuccoed brick construction with a gable-end slate roof and two rendered-end stacks. The building has three storeys, a basement, and an attic, with a symmetrical front consisting of three bays. The front is highlighted by an offset plinth that rises to ground-floor level and a raised band at first-floor level. The upper floors are framed by a giant order of shallow pilasters with moulded capitals, with the outer pilasters slightly inset from the corners. Above, there is a crowning entablature with a moulded cornice and parapet.

On the ground floor, there is a central, projecting, single-storey entrance porch that is accessed by a flight of steps on the right-hand side. The porch is designed in the Roman Doric order, featuring pairs of columns at the outer corners that support an entablature and blocking course. The entrance doorway has a moulded architrave and a segmental arched fanlight with radiating glazing bars above the lintel, along with a panelled door. Flanking the doorway are sash windows, and on each upper floor, there are three sash windows, all with glazing bars (3x4 panes) set in openings with projecting stone sills. The interior has not been inspected.
