Description
No. 22 London Road is a house that has been converted into a restaurant, dating from around 1815 with minor alterations. The building features red brick that has been painted white on the ground floor and parapet, a wrought-iron porch, and a slate roof. It is a deep block with a bow front and a front basement area. The entrance, which is set back on the front of a narrow bay, is located to the left and includes a doorway with a semicircular fanlight and a flight of stone steps leading to the threshold landing. In front of the doorway is a decorative wrought-iron porch with pierced standards supporting a swept canopy.
The front of the building has three storeys and a basement, with a plain parapet. The ground floor and each of the upper floors of the bow feature three curved sash windows with glazing bars (3x4 panes), except for plain lower sash replacements on the ground floor. These windows are set in openings with flat arched heads made of five raised-and-stepped voussoirs and have projecting stone sills. Above the entrance doorway on the first floor is an inserted 20th-century metal frame casement. In the basement, there is a sash window with glazing bars located in the centre of the bow. The interior has not been inspected.
