Description

Sheraton House is a town house, dating from 1814. It now functions as shops, offices, and flats. It adjoins the north end of the terrace at 2 to 8 Wellington Parade and was constructed as part of the same development, sharing similar details. Around 1960, a large, single-storey shop was added over the former front garden, extending across the front elevation. The front is of ashlar, while the return elevation facing Wellington Parade is stuccoed brick. The roof is slate, with brick stacks. The building is a wide rectangular block with a rear wing to the left.

The main front has three storeys and a basement, with a symmetrical facade of five bays and a capped parapet. Above the roof of the added shop, the semi-circular heads of the former central doorway are visible, along with windows set in larger recessed arches in the bays to either side. The upper parts of the original sashes are preserved, featuring glazing bars. On each of the upper floors, there are five sashes with glazing bars, arranged in a 3x4 pane pattern. The return elevation facing Wellington Parade has one bay; on the ground floor, a semicircular arched sash with glazing bars (2x3 panes and margin panes) is set in a recessed semicircular arched opening. Each of the upper floors on this return elevation has a sash with glazing bars (3x4 panes), and there is a sash to the basement. The interior has not been inspected. Wrought-iron railings are present along the basement area in Wellington Street.
