Description
Westbury House is a villa, now used as offices, built around 1830 to 1850, with later additions and alterations, including a 20th-century range at the rear. The building features stucco over brick and has a hipped slate roof. It has a double depth plan with a central hallway.
The exterior is two storeys high with a basement and includes five first-floor windows, with a single-storey bay on the basement to each side. The single-storey bays project slightly forward. Stucco detailing includes a shaped plinth that is interrupted by basement windows, a first-floor band on the main range, and Doric pilasters on the single-storey bays, which are topped with a frieze and cornice that has a blocking course. The windows have tooled architraves, with 1/1 sashes on the ground floor, 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes on the first floor, and 3/3 sashes in the basement. The central entrance features a Doric porch supported by two pairs of fluted columns, along with an architrave, frieze, and cornice with a blocking course. There is a flight of five roll-edged steps leading to a six-panel door that has sidelights and overlights.
Inside, the open-well staircase has alternate stick and embellished iron balusters, along with a wreathed handrail. The plasterwork remains, including an embellished cornice in the hall.
