Description
9 Montpellier Parade is a villa, built around 1823 and later used as flats and offices. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with ashlar detailing to the porch and concealed roof, and brick stacks at each end. The building has a double-depth plan with a central hallway.
The exterior is three storeys high with three windows on the first floor. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows, the ground floor windows being taller, all set in plain reveals and with sills. The second floor has 3/3 sash windows. The central entrance has six-panel double doors, the upper panels raised and fielded, the lower panels decorated with a circular motif. Above the doors is a fanlight with a batwing and circle glazing bar design, within a distyle Doric porch with an architrave, frieze, cornice and a blocking course with guttae. The roofline features a crowning parapet and copings.
The interior is noted to retain original joinery, including panelled shutters, although a full inspection was not carried out.
The villa is part of a notable group of 1820s villas located along Montpellier Parade.
