Description
Numbers 57 and 59 are two attached terraced houses dating from around 1820 to 1834. They were marked on a map of 1834 but not on one from 1820. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with a slate roof and a brick party-wall stack.
The two-storey houses, which also have a basement, have five windows on the first floor, arranged in a 2:3 configuration. Most of the windows retain their original 6/6 and 2/2 horizontal-pane sashes. A window on the left side of the ground floor is in a wider, taller, round-arched recess. The basement windows are original 8/8 sashes. The right-hand entrances have roll-edged steps leading to six-panel doors, one of which is partially glazed with decorative glazing bars in the fanlight. A second door to the right also has a fanlight. The external details include a crowning frieze, cornice, and blocking course. Rear extensions retain original 6/6 and 8/8 sashes. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
Attached area railings have spearhead tops on the left and fleur-de-lys heads on the right. A window box on the ground floor to the left includes scrollwork. A scrolled bootscraper has been noted on the left.
