Description

Common Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the late 18th century on the left side and has two mid 19th century bays on the right. It features squared and coursed chalk with chalk quoins, a stone slate roof at the front, and Welsh slate elsewhere, along with brick stacks. The building has a three-unit plan and is two stories tall with a five-window range.

The late 18th century elevation has a flat hood with carved brackets and a -light over a four-panelled door at the center. The front has three bays with timber lintels above eight-pane sash windows. The mid 19th century front includes three-light late 19th century casements on the first floor, a mid 19th century canted brick bay, and a 20th century casement on the ground floor. There is also a row of four diamond shapes and five rectangular shapes cut into the chalk with flint infill. The roof is gabled with brick end and ridge stacks.

Inside, there is a quarry tile floor and fireplaces with bressumers in the late 18th century section, along with four-panelled and plank doors. The service wing at the rear is mid 19th century, featuring a double hipped slate roof, a lateral brick stack, two two-light leaded casements, and a brick segmental arch over a plank door. The late 18th century part is likely from around 1790, coinciding with the enclosure of the Common.
