Description

Field Cottage is a house that was originally two cottages, dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. It is constructed from uncoursed chalk rubble sitting on a sarsen base, with chalk quoins and a thatched roof featuring brick stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and is one and a half stories tall, with a five-window range. Most of the doors and windows are from the 20th century, and some window openings have been widened, but there is one 18th-century two-light leaded casement window. The roof is hipped with end stacks. Inside, there is a complete set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists, along with a three-bay common rafter roof. A 20th-century lean-to is attached to the left gable, while the right side features brick and concrete block construction.
