Description
Garrards Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse located on Uffington High Street. It features a combination of chalk graded ashlar with brick quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof and brick stacks. The building has a three-unit through-passage plan and is two stories high with a four-window range. A semi-circular brick arch with a chalk key sits above a six-panelled door, which has four glazed panels and is adorned with carved brackets supporting a flat hood. The original three-light leaded casements are topped with cambered brick arches featuring chalk keys. The farmhouse has a brick eaves course, a gabled roof, and both end and ridge stacks.
The interior has not been inspected. There is a contemporary rear right wing built in Flemish bond brick, which also has original three-light leaded casements. Attached to the left gable wall is a 17th-century cartshed, which has a chalk coursed rubble wall at the front that replaces the original timber-framed wall. The cartshed features a corrugated-iron gabled roof and an interior with a five-bay collar-truss roof that has clasped purlins. The west side of the cartshed is open, supported by timber posts that are arch-braced to the wall plate and tie beam.
