Description

Tamerlane Cottage is a cottage dating to 1801, as indicated by a date inscribed beside the door, and built by John Hawke. The cottage is constructed of squared and coursed chalk with brick dressings, and has a thatched roof with a brick stack. It is a one-and-a-half-storey building with a two-window front. A flat hood supported by carved brackets covers the original plank front door. The ground floor has two-light windows of 20th-century origin set within a brick elliptical arch, and a timber lintel. The first floor also has two-light windows dating to the 20th century. The roof is hipped, with a gable end stack. Inside, the cottage features a full set of chamfered beams and common joists, along with plank doors. A brick lean-to to the left contains a contemporary fireplace.
