Description

This is a late 17th-century house located on the north side of Uffington High Street. It is built of squared and coursed chalk with chalk quoins, and brick to the left-hand side, and has a thatched roof. The house follows a three-unit lobby entry plan with an attached outshut. It is two storeys high and has a four-window front. A 20th-century door is set beneath a flat hood and timber lintel. The windows are 20th-century casements, though the gable on the right-hand side retains an original blocked two-light wooden mullioned casement. The roof is hipped, with gablets, and incorporates end and ridge brick stacks. The interior retains a full set of chamfered and stopped beams and joists, along with chamfered bressumers above the fireplaces. A chamfered chalk fireplace is present on the first floor to the left. A late 18th-century staircase with straight and quarter-turn sections is also original. Most of the roof was rebuilt in the late 20th century, with the exception of two collar-trusses with butt purlins located on the left side. A flat-roofed conservatory has been added to the rear of the property.
