Description

Lilac Cottage is an early 18th-century house located at Uffington Northouse Corner. The construction utilizes squared and coursed chalk set upon a sarsen base, with chalk block quoins and a thatched roof. Brick stacks are present. Originally a two-unit plan building, it now has a three-window front. A 20th-century door is centrally positioned, leading to a 20th-century timber porch with club and plain tile cladding. The windows are 3-light leaded casements with chamfered timber lintels. The roof is gabled, with lateral stacks at the ends and rear.

Inside, the room to the right features a stone fireplace with a moulded surround, and a mid-19th century iron door that leads to a bread oven. The room to the left reveals a deep chamfered beam with ogee stops, also applied to the fireplace bresummer. A first-floor room on the right also contains a stone fireplace with a moulded surround, and a timber-framed partition extends to the rear wing. The roof structure includes a collar-truss and butt purlins.
