Description

Idstone Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse located in Ashbury, constructed from squared and coursed chalk on a sarsen base, with brick quoins and dressings. The building features a 20th-century tiled roof and brick stacks. It has a two-unit central staircase plan with a back kitchen situated at the rear left. The farmhouse is two stories high and has a three-window range. The central door, which is of 20th-century design, includes two overlights and a flat hood. There are segmental brick arches above the 20th-century casements, which consist of four and two lights, and a mid-19th-century canted bay window to the left. The exterior includes a brick storey band and dentilled eaves, with a hipped roof and a rear right lateral stack. The right side wall has a blocked first-floor window situated above a blocked mid-19th-century canted bay window. Although the interior has not been inspected, the rear left wing features four-light leaded casements on the first floor, along with a single four-light wood-mullioned leaded casement on the rear gable wall, which has been largely rebuilt in artificial stone. The wing also has a ridge stack and a large corbelled lateral stack on the right wall. Additionally, there is a mid-19th-century brick and tile pantry located at the rear right, positioned at an angle with the rear left wing.
