Description
Rectory Farmhouse is an early 18th-century farmhouse constructed from uncoursed sarsen rubble and squared and coursed chalk, with the left section rebuilt in 20th-century brick. It features a 20th-century tiled roof and brick stacks. The building has a central staircase plan with one four-bay and one single-bay rear wing, forming a U-shape. It is two storeys tall with an attic and has a five-window range. The original sash windows have been replaced with late 19th-century two-light casements, and there is a central late 19th-century panelled door. The ground floor is finished in sarsen, while the first floor is made of chalk, separated by a brick band and a dentilled eaves cornice. The roof has two gabled 20th-century dormers, with both hipped and gabled sections, and ridge and end stacks. The rear right wing is built from uncoursed sarsen rubble with brick dressings, featuring 20th-century casements and flat gauged-brick arches over the first-floor windows, with brick segmental arches on the ground floor. There is a six-panelled door with scrolled brackets and a flat hood, flanked by canted bay windows, and a single-bay wing to the rear left. The interior has not been inspected but is reported to have a good staircase and early 18th-century panelled rooms.
