Description

Ashdale Farmhouse is a farmhouse built around 1830. It features a grey brick front in Flemish bond, with the sides and rear constructed of red brick, and has a Welsh slate roof. The building is L-shaped in plan, with a double-depth main section that includes a central entrance hall and a secondary entrance with a stair hall at the rear. There is also a two-room service wing set back to the right. The farmhouse is two storeys tall and has three bays, presenting a symmetrical facade with a low storey, three-bay wing to the right.

The front has a plinth and a central bay that breaks forward, topped with a pediment. A flight of three stone steps leads up to a half-glazed panelled door, which is flanked by sidelights and overlights, all under a cambered wedge lintel. The windows are 12-pane sashes set in flush wood architraves, also with cambered wedge lintels and stone cills. The pediment features ashlar coping and a blind oculus in the tympanum, while the eaves are plain wooden. The roof is hipped, and there are two axial stacks.

The service wing has two board doors beneath segmental brick arches, 12-pane sliding sashes, and an axial stack. At the rear, there is an entrance with a doorcase that has a ribbed surround, a moulded cornice, and a shallow hood; this leads to a part-glazed panelled door beneath the moulded cornice and a blind overlight with decorative glazing bars in a panelled reveal.
