Description
The Old Thatch is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It features a stack added in the early 20th century, along with later 20th-century windows, a door, and rendering on the front, as well as 20th-century additions to the left. The structure is timber-framed with mud-and-stud infill, rendered at the front, and has a thatched roof. It consists of three bays of timber frame and has a two-room central lobby-entry plan with a series of 20th-century additions to the left. The house is a single storey with two windows. The 20th-century door is flanked by 20th-century three-light casements. The hipped thatched roof features ornate ridge capping and has a central axial stack. The mud-and-stud infill is exposed at the rear.
Inside, the main members of the well-preserved pegged oak framing are visible in the room to the left, which has a late raised ceiling. The wall posts rest on roughly-shaped padstones and are linked by middle rails, with curved braces connecting to the wall plates and tie beams. The framing is concealed by plaster in the room to the right. The original mud-and-stud firehood has been replaced by the current chimney.
