Description

No. 1 and Chalkstone Cottage are two cottages located on the south side of Upper Common, dating from the late 17th century for No. 2, with a later cottage added to the left. They are constructed of squared and coursed chalk, with some sarsen stone included, and feature a thatched roof with brick stacks. Each cottage has a two-unit plan and is 1.5 storeys high, with a four-window range. The cottages have timber lintels over 20th-century doors and casements, except for a three-light leaded casement in the top right. There is a 20th-century porch added to No. 1. The roof is half-hipped with ridge and end stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
