Description
12 and 14 High Street are a pair of cottages dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed limestone and ironstone rubble, topped with a thatch roof, and feature brick ridge and end stacks. The cottages have a two-unit plan and are two stories high, with a four-window range.
No. 12, located on the right, has a four-panel door set in a pegged wood surround with a wood lintel, flanked by three-light casement windows that have cemented wood lintels. No. 14 features a 20th-century door to the left of center in a pegged wood surround with a wood lintel, a two-light casement window to the left of the door, a three-light casement window at the far left, and a fire window in between, all with wood lintels. Both cottages have two-light casement windows on the first floor, set in eyebrow dormers. Notably, No. 14 includes a bar-stop-chamfered spine beam, a chamfered spine beam, and an open fireplace with an ogee-stop-chamfered bressumer.
