Description
Nightingale Cottage, now an office and surgery, is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It features square timber framing that jetties over a rendered ground floor on the left side (No.35), while the right side (No.37) has a late 18th-century front made of Flemish bond brick. The building has a gabled roof covered with old tiles and a brick ridge stack. It has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with a two-window range. The upper floor has horizontal sliding sash windows above an early 19th-century six-panelled stable door and a canted bay with sashes on the left. To the right, there is a segmental arch over a mid-19th-century sash window above a 20th-century door and window. Inside, No.37 on the right features a timber-framed partition and the lower face of a collar-truss to the left. No.35 includes a chamfered beam, a bressumer over an open fireplace, large curved arch-braces on the first floor, and a queen-post roof.
