Description
Across the Street, also known as The Craft Shop, is a house that has been converted into a flat and shop. It dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century and was remodeled in the 18th century. The original structure features timber framing with colourwashed brick infill at the rear, while the front is made of 18th-century rendered brick. The building has a gabled 20th-century tile roof and a brick ridge stack. It is arranged in an L-shape with a rear right wing and has two storeys with a two-window range. There is a segmental arch above a plank entry door on the left side. The mid-19th-century shop front includes a canted bay and a 20th-century door and windows to the left. The first floor has horned sash windows, and there is a fire insurance plaque and dentilled eaves. The rear two-storey wing is made of colourwashed brick and has a gabled 20th-century tile roof. Inside, there are quartered chamfered and stopped beams, and while the first floor has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest. The 18th-century rear wing is constructed of flint rubble with brick dressings and has a gabled old tile roof.
