Description

This building, originally a house and now serving as two offices, dates from the 17th century, likely in the early to mid part of the century, and has been altered over time. It features a timber frame with lath and plaster infill, a rendered ground floor, and a plain tile roof. The structure is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays.

There are two panelled doorways; the one on the left, leading to No 1A, has five panels beneath a fanlight with radial glazing bars set in a pilastered architrave. The right doorway, leading to No 1, features reeded panels and a doorcase with attached columns on the jambs and lintel, along with fielded panels in the top corners. Between the doors are two shallow canted bay windows, with plain glass in the lower panes and small-pane glazing in the upper panes. There is also a sash window on the far left.

The first floor jetties out on large corbels, with a moulded bressummer and decorative framing that forms circles interrupted by posts and rails. To the left of the centre, there is a similarly-decorated restored oriel window with a transomed three-light window at the front and one-light windows on the returns and gable, featuring decorative bargeboards. On either side, there are transomed, leaded three-light windows. A two-light gabled attic dormer is located to the left, with a brick stack in front of the roof pitch.

At the rear, there is a later wing, likely from the 18th century, which has brick-infilled studding and a tile-hung gable. To its right stands a large external chimney made of rubblestone and brick, with an offset at the base of the truncated stack. A hipped-roofed attic dormer is positioned to the right of this chimney.

Inside, the right bay on the ground floor features a chamfered spine beam with a long lamb's tongue chamfer. On the first floor, there is an elaborate fireplace on the rear wall and 18th-century two-panel doors. The roof contains high-collared principal rafter roof trusses, a queen-post truss at the right end, two tiers of butt purlins, and old pegged rafters.
