Description
This building, known as Cleaver and Company, Enzorosario, and The Racquet Shop, is located at 112 High Street in Godalming. It is a house that has been converted into two shops and an office. The structure likely dates from the second half of the 16th century, with an 18th-century wing added, and it was refronted in the early 18th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The building features a timber frame with later brick infill and tile-hanging, while the front is made of painted brick. It has plain tile roofs and probably follows a central smoke-bay plan.
The building is two storeys high and has four first-floor windows, with a wing extending to the rear left. There are two 20th-century shop fronts that are not of special interest. The first-floor windows are leaded casements with flat brick arches, arranged in groups of three, three, two, and three lights. The eaves are cogged, and there is an end stack on the right side.
At the rear, the wing features square panelled timber framing with tile-hung sides and a hipped roof. Inside, the timber frame members are exposed, especially on the first floor of the left-hand bays, which includes a timber-framed cross-wall with a large arched brace between the bays and a similar brace to the tie-beam. The rear wall contains a wooden mullioned and transomed three-light window with wooden stanchions, diamond leading, old glass, and one casement. The roof trusses have curving V struts with a collar and clasped through purlins.
