Description

This is a row of shops at 50-53 Longden Coleham, Shrewsbury. The core of the building likely dates from the 16th century, although it was given a new 18th-century facade. The shops were built in two phases, each a two-story, two-window range, and are timber-framed with a brick exterior that is now painted. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The left-hand building has two late 19th-century shop fronts with console brackets supporting the fascia, and four-pane sash windows above. There are two gabled dormers in the attic. An archway provides access to the rear to the right. The building to its right is higher and also has paired late 19th-century shop fronts and sash windows with two and four panes above, with a string course running over. The building contains axial stacks. Square panelled framing is visible in the gable wall of numbers 50 and 51, and a cambered tie beam with raking struts over the collar and tension braces to the sill is also present.
