Description
Brook Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century or earlier, located on Tadmarton Hollow Road in Lower Tadmarton. Originally a single-cell cottage with an attached barn, which now serves as the kitchen, the cottage is constructed from uncoursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof. It has a brick end stack on the left gable with a stone base. The building has a single-unit plan and is a single storey plus attic.
There is a blocked doorway on the right with a wooden lintel, and two 3-light casements in the attic. The kitchen range on the left is also a single unit and single storey. The entrance on the right has a 4-panelled door with a wood-framed surround and lintel, while a window to the left of the door also features a wooden lintel.
Inside, there is a stop-chamfered beam in the cottage, and a wooden winder staircase leads to the attic. The fireplace, which has a bressumer, was rebuilt in the 20th century, and there is a bread oven projection in the right wall of the kitchen. At the rear, there are additional 2- and 3-light casements.
