Description

Lyndon Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, with some later minor additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with whitewashed brick and plastered wattle-and-daub infill, along with some whitewashed brick on the left and in the outshut, all resting on a rubble plinth. The steeply pitched thatch roof has been renewed and includes brick end stacks, while the outshut has a tiled roof. The gable faces to the left, and the building has a two-unit plan.

The exterior is single storey with an attic and has a two-window range. The left half is brick, while the right half is roughcast. The entrance, located to the left of centre, has a half-glazed lean-to porch and a 20th-century door. There are two windows with two-light casements, and an eyebrow dormer to the left features a two-light casement over an irregular wall plate. The right return displays a half-hipped gable with exposed timber framing above a lean-to outshut that clasps an external stack, along with a gabled projection. To the right, there is a rounded rubble oven projection topped with a stone slate roof.

At the rear, the cottage shows exposed square framing and has an entrance with a 20th-century door to the left of centre, a small light in the centre, and two small windows with leaded glazing. There are also two small windows on the first floor.

Inside, the cottage has chamfered spine beams and a blocked open fireplace with a bressumer. A late 18th-century open fireplace has been inserted in the kitchen, and a truss tie beam has been cut for a doorway, likely at the same time. Old elm plank doors lead to the kitchen and first floor. The framing remains visible in the party wall to the left and in the partition wall, and there is a 20th-century staircase.
