Description

The Old Post Office is a house, originally built in the 17th century and altered in the 18th century, with a 20th-century addition. It is constructed of brick with some timber-frame elements, and has a thatched roof with plastered brick end stacks. The building has a two-unit plan, with a single-storey addition to the right return.

The exterior is single-storey with an attic, featuring a three-window range. The central entrance has a gabled brick porch with a 20th-century panelled door. To the left is a window with a segmental head, and to the right, a window with a tile sill and timber lintel, both featuring two-light casements with small panes. The attic has three eyebrow dormers forming a continuous element, each with two-light casements with small panes and iron opening stays.

The right return displays an external brick stack rising through an outshut with thin scantlings and a hipped thatched roof. The left end has a projecting porch with a plank door, one strap hinge, a side light, and a return two-light casement with small panes. The left return shows a partly stone wall with a brick clasping buttress and an offset brick projection below the stack. The rear includes a lean-to outshut, likely against a timber-framed wall. The interior was not inspected.
