Description
The Thatched Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th to 18th century. It is constructed from uncoursed limestone and ironstone rubble, topped with thatched roofs and featuring a brick stack. Originally designed as a single cell, the cottage was extended in the 20th century by adding one bay to the left, which incorporated an adjoining barn. The original entrance was located on the street front. The building has one storey and an attic, with a total of four bays. The doorway, located in the second bay from the left, has a wooden lintel and a plank door. To the left of the doorway is a 20th-century two-light casement window with a wooden lintel. There are two similar windows to the right and one in the attic. A semi-circular bread oven with a thatched roof is situated in the right bay. Inside, the cottage features chamfered spine beams and plain joists, along with an open fireplace. The bread oven has been rebuilt internally with a brick surround.
