Description
The George and Dragon Public House is a public house built around 1840. It is constructed of stock brick with rendered details and features two storeys, a basement, and an attic. The building has a moulded cornice, frieze, and parapet, along with four flat-roofed dormers and chimney stacks on both the left and right sides. The front has six bays, with four sash windows and blank panels in the second and fifth bays on the first floor. The ground floor has four sash windows and a blank panel in the fifth bay, along with a half-glazed door located to the centre left, topped by a semi-circular fanlight and a rendered head. There is a basement opening to the right. The rear facade includes a late 19th-century plate glass pub front and entrance. Originally, the George and Dragon was located on the High Street but was moved to these purpose-built premises between 1840 and 1845, constructed by Woodland and Grundy, two Ramsgate builders who purchased the land in 1839 and developed Cavendish Street.
