Description

House and shop, dating from the early 19th century. The building is rendered with a slate roof. It is three storeys high, and has pilaster quoins to the cornice and parapet. The roof is a double pitch with parapet gables, and there are chimney stacks to the rear left and right. The second floor has glazing bar sashes, with 12 panes to the left and 15 to the right. The first floor has sashes with 16 and 20 panes respectively. On the ground floor, there is a glazing bar sash to the left, and a large bow window to the right containing two glazing bar sashes. A door consisting of two raised and fielded panels is set in a Doric porch in the centre left of the front. A glazed passageway door with a semi-circular head is located at the end of the right side. Simple 20th-century railings are present to the forecourt. A small, 20th-century shop premises, with a shop front on the left return, is built within the back yard of the main building and occupies the address 2A George Street. The building is shown on Collard and Hursts’ map of 1822; further historical details can be found in entry 13/110.
