Description

No. 36 Effingham Street is a house from the mid-18th century that has been altered and features some 19th-century elements. It is built of red brick with rendered details and stands three storeys high with a basement. The building has a plinth, cill bands, quoins, a parapet, and stacks at the rear. On the second floor, there are two sash windows with rendered surrounds. A two-storey bay, added in the 19th century, has two sashes on each floor, separated by pilasters. The front door, which has six raised and fielded panels, is positioned to the right and intrudes into the facade of the adjacent No. 38. This door features a semi-circular fanlight and is topped with an open pediment supported by pilasters and brackets. There is a hooped iron railing around the basement area. The building is included for its group value.
