Description

Arnoldbrae is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with 18th-century additions and early 19th-century alterations. The building is timber-framed, with the ground floor clad in painted brick and the first floor tile-hung. It has a plain tile roof and a lobby entry plan, positioned at an angle to the road. The farmhouse is two storeys high with a garret and features a stone plinth on the sides and brick on the front. The roof is half-hipped with a central brick stack on the front slope. The windows are irregularly arranged, consisting of three in total: two 3-light 19th-century casements and one small central sash window with horns. The ground floor has tripartite windows, and there is a central boarded door beneath a simple wooden porch. At the rear of the stack is a two-storey addition, possibly an 18th-century stair turret, which has a painted brick ground floor, a tile-hung first floor, and a hipped plain-tile roof. To the left, there is a short single-storey rear wing, likely from the 18th century, which is timber-framed with a painted brick elevation to the road, a dentilled eaves cornice, and weatherboarding on the rest, all sitting on a stone plinth. This wing also has a half-hipped plain tile roof and a multiple red and grey brick stack on the front slope that leans towards the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
