Description
This is a barn located at Langley Holly Farm Road, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with an addition from the late 18th or early 19th century. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a stone plinth, and features a corrugated iron roof. It consists of three timber-framed bays with a central midstrey, and a fourth bay was added to the left in the late 18th or early 19th century. The roof is hipped, and there are low double doors at the front and full-height doors at the rear. A later lean-to has been added to the right side.
Inside, the barn has posts with ogee-undercut jowls and arch-braced tie beams. The roof structure includes clasped purlins with diminishing principal rafters, while the left end bay has a similar roof design but lacks a ridge-piece. The studs are broadly spaced and virtually unaltered, with broad tension braces at the right and left gable ends and slightly straighter ones on the sides. The original left gable end has been re-assembled at the left end of the added bay, and there are protruding pegs visible.
