Description

A barn, dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations. The barn is timber-framed and built on a stone rubble plinth, with some brick infilling and partially clad in weatherboards. It has a steeply-pitched, gable-ended roof covered in corrugated-iron sheets. The plan consists of five bays, with opposing cart entrances leading to a threshing floor in the second bay from the west end.

The south front is weatherboarded, with a cart entrance at the west end featuring plank double doors and raised eaves. The east and west gable ends show exposed square framing with brick infill and weatherboarding in the gables above. The north side has exposed framing and brick infilling, flanking a cart entrance with plank double doors towards the right end, with weatherboarding above. A section of the north wall to the east has been rebuilt in red brick.

Inside, the barn retains a five-bay frame with large wall posts supporting tie-beam and queen-strut trusses, which have staggered trenched purlins and a diagonally-set ridgepiece within the crossed apex of the principals. The common rafters are intact, and the wall framing is largely original, consisting of square panels with a high rail. A timber trough is also present.
