Description
The Taynton War Memorial is a stone structure erected in 1921, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Lawrence, which is listed as Grade II*. The memorial features a gabled calvary cross with an octagonal shaft, placed on a rectangular pedestal. This is set upon a two-stepped, square base.
On the north face of the pedestal, there is an inscription that reads:
IN PROUD MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF TAYNTON / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914–1918.
The names of 24 parishioners who died in the First World War are inscribed on the west and east faces of the pedestal. The south face of the pedestal includes the inscription:
SECOND WORLD WAR / 1939–1945 / (1 NAME) / DIED ON ACTIVE SERVICE.
