Description

Taynton Court is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century and was altered in the early 19th century. It features roughcast, probably over stone, with a tiled roof and is designed in an L-plan, with a rear wing that is probably a later addition. The building is two storeys high with attics and has four windows across the front, which faces away from the drive.

On the entrance facade, there is a 20-pane sash window on the right with a flat timber lintel. To the left, there is a half-glazed front door with two flush panels below, accessed by one stone step. This door has a moulded surround and a flat head, and is sheltered by a lean-to porch supported by curved brackets. To the left of the door, there are additional nine-pane and 20-pane sash windows, and the ground slopes down beyond.

On the first floor, there are three nine-pane sashes located above the door and the adjacent windows. The right side of the building has an external rendered stack with two diamond-set brick flues, and there is a small, single-pane segmental-head window in the attic on the left. The left side features a door leading to a cellar below, with ventilation slats in the upper half, a 16-pane sash window on the ground floor with a cambered head, a three-light mullion and transom window with a cambered head on the first floor, and a three-light casement window in the attic, which has a half-hip over it.

The interior has not been inspected. The farmhouse briefly belonged to Benjamin Disraeli through his wife, as noted in K. & W. Thomas's book, "Our Star of Taynton," published in 1981.
