Description
This is a barn located at Copyhold Farm on the northeast side of the farmyard, dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with a later 18th-century addition. The barn is timber framed and features weatherboard cladding on a brick plinth, topped with a roof made of plain tiles and triple Roman tiles.
The structure consists of three main bays plus one additional bay that was added later, along with a rear aisle. Much of the original weatherboard is still intact. The second bay has a hipped-roofed porch for cart entry, although the door has been filled in; there is a later window on the left and a boarded door on the right. An added lean-to on the right side is not considered of special interest.
At the rear, there is a wide central boarded door that was once a cart entry.
Inside, the three left-hand bays feature unjowelled wall posts with both curved and straight braces connecting to the wall-plates and tie-beam. There is no mid-rail in the wall framing, and the roof has collared queen trusses with clasped through purlins and old rafters. The right bay includes a mid-rail in the wall framing, along with curved braces, crooked wall-plates, rafters, and purlins.
This barn is included for its group value.
