Description
Paradise Cottage is a house located on Paradise Lane in Bucklebury, dating from the late 16th century and 17th century, with some minor additions from the 20th century. The building is timber framed, featuring angle braces, white painted brick nogging, some tile hanging, and rendering, topped with an old tile roof. It has a gabled cross wing to the west, where the roof sweeps down over the entrance and staircase block to the north, and a large central ridge stack. The structure consists of one framed bay with a two framed bay cross wing, and it stands two storeys high with an attic.
On the north front, the first floor to the left is tile hung with a small casement window, and there is a small ground floor casement beneath it. The cross wing to the right has a two-light casement in the attic, a two-light casement on the first floor, and a three-light bowed casement on the ground floor. There is also a 20th-century boarded door under a lean-to to the left, with a small casement window above.
The south front features a five-light casement on the ground floor to the right and a three-light casement in the rendered first floor above. The cross wing to the left has a tile hung first floor and attic, with a two-light attic casement, a three-light first floor casement, and a three-light ground floor casement, along with a 20th-century glazed door to the left.
To the east, there is a block that is also timber framed with angle braces and white painted brick nogging, featuring a hipped tile roof and two dormers to the south, each with a two-light casement. This block has two framed bays and stands at one and a half storeys. The south front includes a three-light casement to the left and a small casement to the right.
Inside, contemporary fireplaces remain, adding to the character of the cottage.
