Description
The Old Bakehouse is a cottage located in Bucklebury, dating from the late 16th century, with 19th-century extensions and alterations. It features a brick exterior over a timber frame and has a thatched roof. The building has a lobby entry plan, with a catslide roof over an outshut at the rear and a 19th-century bakehouse extending at right angles to the rear. It is one and a half storeys tall, with two dormers cut into the thatch on the west ridge and an end chimney to the north. The west elevation includes a two-light leaded casement window on the left, a two-light leaded casement with a cambered head on the right, and a central door set within a 20th-century gabled porch. Inside, the timber framing is exposed throughout the cottage, showcasing a two-bay frame with soot-blackened rafters in the north bay.
