Description
Tulip Cottage and Lilac Cottage are a pair of houses that were likely originally a barn, dating from the 16th century or earlier, with a facade added in the 19th century. The buildings are timber framed, with the front elevation featuring red brick in Flemish bond. The left gable end has brickwork on the ground floor and is rendered above, while the right gable end is weatherboarded on the ground floor and rendered above. The rear is also rendered. The roof is covered with plain tiles and is probably made up of three timber-framed bays, rising to two storeys with a hipped roof that has gablets. A central brick chimney stack is located on the front slope of the roof. The windows have an irregular arrangement, consisting of two 2-light wooden casements with segmental heads on the ground floor. The doors are boarded with segmental heads, with one leading to Tulip Cottage on the left and the other to Lilac Cottage on the right. The interior has only been partly inspected but features gunstock-jowled principal posts, an edge-halved scarf joint, and a collared common rafter roof. The cottages are included for their group value.
