Description
This is a row of five cottages, originally built in the late 18th century and altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. Two of the cottages are now shops. The building is constructed of brick, with some areas painted and wide rendered eaves. It has a pantile roof.
The row consists of three original two-storey and attic, two-bay cottages, with two later cottages added to one end. The cottage on the right-hand side has later cottages attached, featuring a glazed door and a 20th-century corbelled bow window. The first floor has two 18th-century leaded two-light casement windows. The central cottage features an early 20th-century shop front with shop windows flanking a recessed door, above which are two-light casements. The left-hand cottage has a central four-panel door within a solid frame. On the right-hand side of the row is a 20th-century oriel window, and on the left-hand side, a two-light casement. Above these windows are 18th-century two and three-light leaded casements. A triangular dormer sits over the central and right-hand bays. The left-hand bay has a lower ridge line. Chimneys are located at the left-hand end and between the original cottages, with a larger stack positioned in front of the ridge. The building is included on the list for its group value.
