Description

This is a villa dating from circa 1840, situated on a corner plot where Wood Street meets Dover Street. It is stucco-faced with a low-pitched slate roof, three dormers (one modern), and stuccoed stacks linked by a high parapet with coping. The front onto Wood Street has two windows, with the first-floor window to the left featuring a cornice and panelled apron, but with three modern casement lights. Other windows are recessed, with a third window to the right having shutters on both the ground and first floors. One sash window retains its original glazing bars and block sills. The central entrance has a recessed panelled and glazed door, a rectangular fanlight, splayed reveals, and a plain surround. A Greek Doric porch features attenuated fluted columns and pilasters, an entablature resting on parapets, and anthemion and vitruvian scroll railings to the sides of the three steps leading up to the entrance. The Dover Street front is similar, with three windows, including a two-story bow window to the South with recessed sash windows retaining glazing bars and block sills. The building forms a group with numbers 34 to 38 (even) on Dover Street.
