Description

The building at 44 Spencer Road is a villa dating from around 1840 to 1850. It is a two-storey building with a basement, constructed with rendered walls and rusticated stone quoins. A moulded sill course runs along the first floor. The roof is slate, with a low pitch and wide eaves. The front elevation contains three recessed sash windows, lacking glazing bars and featuring architrave surrounds and console blocks as sills. Cornices are positioned above the first-floor windows, while the ground-floor windows are topped with pediments resting on shaped brackets. The north front is similar in design. A porch with round-headed windows on either side, incorporating keystones and supported by Doric pilasters, a triglyph frieze, and a cornice, provides access. The four-panel door, with two glazed panels and a rectangular fanlight above, is set back within a plain surround. No. 44, along with numbers 50 to 54 (even) and 58 and 60, form a group.
