Description
The Lodge at Westfield Park Estate is an early 19th-century single-storey building that serves as a gatehouse. It is constructed from coursed rubble and features rusticated quoins and a plinth. The low-pitched gable end roof is covered with stone tiles, and the eaves are concealed by a parapet with coping. Above a single three-light casement window, which has glazing bars and is set within a rusticated ashlar surround, there is a block string course.
Next to the lodge is a triumphal arch gateway, which is flanked by blind bays made of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings up to the spring of the arch. Each bay has a cornice and a panelled parapet, topped with urns, while the centre features a block that supports a reclining lion. The bays include blind round-headed niches within architrave surrounds that extend down to the ground level, with pedestals intended for statuary. The cornice of the bays continues onto the piers of the archway, serving as imposts for the arch's springing. The arch itself has an ashlar architrave and a keystone that runs across the soffit, leading into a frieze and a main dentil cornice above. The parapet is flanked by piers, and the recessed panel in the centre bears the motto "qui si sana." Above this, on a block, is a finely crafted reclining stag.
