Lodge And Gate-Piers, Victoria Park House, Newhaven Road, Newhaven, Edinburgh

The lodge and gate-piers at Victoria Park House on Newhaven Road in Edinburgh date back to 1789. This single-storey, three-bay building has a symmetrical square plan and is designed in a classical style. The eastern and southern facades feature lightly stugged ashlar, while the western and northern sides are constructed from random rubble. The building has a raised ashlar base course, an eaves course, and a continuous blocking course, topped with a modern flat roof. In front, there is a low yellow sandstone wall.

On the southern entrance elevation, the central bay is advanced and features a replacement door with a three-pane fanlight above. There are symmetrical single windows flanking this central bay. The eastern elevation facing Newhaven Road has a slit window in the recessed central bay, with single windows in the advanced bays. To the left of the right window, there is a gun-loop style window. The western elevation has a doorway inserted in the center.

Both principal elevations have 12-pane timber sash and case windows. A polished sandstone stack is located at the center, featuring a projecting cornice and circular cans, all beneath the modern flat roof.

The gate-piers are made of polished ashlar and flank the entry to the main house. They have recessed panels, a heavy cornice, and pyramidal caps. The wrought-iron gates are unattached.
