Description
The lodge and gatepiers at Beech Hill date from the earlier 19th century and feature later piend and flat-roofed additions. This single-storey classical gate lodge has a white painted droved ashlar front, with pilaster quoins and a base course, while the remaining elevations are finished with white painted harling. There is a rubble lean-to on the east side.
The west elevation includes a cornice and blocking course, along with a bowed bay that has three windows set in recessed panels. The raised pilaster quoins on this elevation are incised with Greek detail. The north elevation is three bays wide, with a central doorway that has a segmental lintel, flanked by windows and pilaster quoins that match the detailing of the west elevation.
The later piend and flat-roofed additions on the south elevation are unfortunately visible from the entrance approach. The windows are sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with purple slates, and there is a set-off ashlar corniced stack on the original south wallhead, along with a lead finial on the original piend roof. The driveway is marked by white painted ashlar corniced square piers.
