Description
This farmhouse in West Morham is a complex structure that has developed over several phases. It likely includes a core from the 17th century and features elements from the earlier to mid 18th century. A gabled wing was added to the south in the 19th century, along with a porch and pentice-roofed bays to the north, and a gablehead to the existing stairblock. The windows have been enlarged over time. The earlier fabric is made of rubble and harled with rounded corners, while the 19th-century openings and alterations have painted ashlar surrounds. The walls are 4 feet thick.
On the north elevation, there are two east-west blocks joined together; the left block is the earlier one, consisting of three bays with a steeply pitched gable, while the right block has two bays and is slightly advanced. The porch is added to the outer left and is connected to the advanced right block by a pentice-roofed infill. The south elevation features a projecting 19th-century wing at the outer right, with the earlier stairblock in the re-entrant angle and a bipartite window inserted to the left. There is evidence of the west block of the east-west core indicated by chimney stacks. The side elevations of the east-west range show two bays to the east and are blank to the west. The windows are plate glass sash and case, and the roof is covered with grey slates. There are end and mutual gable stacks, along with thackstanes, and ashlar coping on the skews of the later additions.
