Description
Paunceford Court is a farmhouse with a core dating from the 17th century, which has been altered and extended in the late 18th or early 19th century, with further modifications made in the 20th century. The east wing has a timber-framed core with brick infill and a sandstone plinth, while the main block has been faced and remodeled in brick. The roofs are covered with slate and tiles.
The building has an irregular plan, featuring a cross-wing to the east and a main block aligned east to west, facing south, with an additional structure to the west. The entrance is centrally located in the main block, with another entrance at the angle of the cross-wing. There is a lateral external stack on the cross-wing, which is enclosed by a lean-to, and additional stacks at the west end of the main block and at the rear.
The south front shows the gable end of the cross-wing projecting forward to the right, with a single-storey and attic structure. In the attic, there is one glazing bar sash window with a cambered head, and two 20th-century windows on the ground floor, one located in the lean-to alongside a ledged door. The main block to the left has two storeys and attics, featuring a string course and three windows, along with three half-dormers that light the attic. The glazing bar sash windows are consistent throughout. The central gabled porch has a half-glazed door, and there are two similar windows in a later addition to the left, with a ledged door to the right of one 4-light casement window on the ground floor. The framing of the cross-wings appears to be complete, with three square panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate.
